Obituary

Michael C. Blaeser, 65, of Eau Claire, died unexpectedly at Sacred Heart Hospital on Monday, December 7, 2009. \r\nHe was born on June 14, 1944, in Eau Claire, the son of Cliff and Vadne (La Pean) Blaeser. He graduated from Regis High School in 1962 and entered the U.S. Army on June 9, 1966. Mike served as a typist in Vietnam stationed at Quin Yon until his honorable discharge on June 7, 1968. He graduated in 1970 from University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with a degree in Business Administration.\r\nMike married Roberta S. "Sherry" Jones on June 6, 1970, at the Sacred Heart Hospital Rotunda in Eau Claire. \r\nMike began his career working as a store manager for Northwest Fabrics in Rockford, IL and later in Cedar Rapids, IA. In 1975 Mike and Sherry moved to Superior where Mike worked as a revenue agent for the State of Wisconsin. In 1978 they moved to Eau Claire to be closer to their families. Mike retired after 26 years of employment with the State of Wisconsin in 2002. \r\nMike was a long time member of St. Olaf Catholic Church where he was active with the Men's Club, Eau Claire Rod&Gun Club, Knights of Columbus John F. Kennedy Council #1257, Bishop Fulton J. Sheen General Assembly - 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #305 in Eau Claire, and the Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge #1408.\r\nMike was a very outgoing and active individual. Among his many interests were deer hunting, summer and ice fishing, his many trips to Lake of the Woods with Hank and Ione. He was an avid cook for the VFW, brat stands for the KC's, and deer camp cook (a position that was inherited from his father Cliff). Mike enjoyed bowling league, trap shooting, and spending time with his family and friends at Blaeser Lodge in Birchwood. From 1987 to 2007 Mike and Sherry traveled extensively to France, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, China, and Hawaii. \r\nMike is survived by his wife, Sherry; three brothers, Jonathan (Christine) of Eau Claire, Alan of Eau Claire, Vaughn (Karen) of Sun Prairie; a sister, Diane (Noble) Lokken of Eau Claire; sister-in-law, Teresa Blaeser of Stone Lake; mother-in-law, Violet Jones of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, Bob Jones of Eau Claire; sister-in-law, Judy (Dick) Eystad of La Crosse; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his infant son Matthew in 1974; his parents; two brothers, Jeffry and Steven; father-in-law, Ray Jones; and nephew, John Lokken.\r\nMass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009, at St. Olaf Catholic Church with Father Brian Konopa, celebrant. Private burial with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post #305 will be at Prairie View Cemetery in the Village of Lake Hallie. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to Mass Friday at the church. A public vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. All Knights of Columbus members, family and friends are invited.
