Michael Robert Kupka, 61, of Fitchburg, WI, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Unity Point Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI, surrounded by his wife, Dawn, and sisters-in-law, Nancy and Peggy, after a brief battle with cancer. Michael was born in Milwaukee, WI, on June 28, 1954, a son of Robert and Elizabeth (Weigal) Kupka. Michael graduated from John Marshall High School in Milwaukee, WI, in 1972. He received an associate degree in Applied Science from Milwaukee Area Technical College in Business Administration in 1975. Michael began his career with the VF Corporation (jeanswear division) in May of 1979. Michael was employed with the VF Corporation for 37 years and was planning for retirement sometime in 2017. Michael loved his career with the VF Corporation. Michael married Dawn Aspenson on November 7, 1987, in Eau Claire, WI, where they met. Michael loved traveling the USA and to Europe with Dawn, enjoyed biking the trails of Dane County, cooking, collecting cookbooks, reading the New York Times food section, dining out at great restaurants, relaxing at home watching movies and spending time with family and friends. Michael is survived by his wife, Dawn; mother, Elizabeth Kupka of Mukwonago, WI; sister, Beverly Abunegila of Milwaukee, WI; two nieces, Feryal Zagrodnik and Danyal Abunegila; great-nephews, Nolan and Kaden Zagrodnik; sister-in-law, Peggy Aspenson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Chuck Helfenstein of Eau Claire, WI. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Robert Kupka; and infant brother, Robert Edward Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the UW Carbone Cancer Center,Attn. Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E. Lexington Blvd. in Eau Claire, WI, with Pastor Kurt Jacobson officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service, Tuesday at the church. Inurnment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington.
