Morris C. Poquette, 83, of Eau Claire passed away Friday, June 21, 2002, at the Syverson Lutheran Home. He was born May 4, 1919, in Medford, Wisconsin the son of Samuel and Naomi (Danielson) Poquette. Morris married Jeanne Nelson on Oct. 29, 1944, in Glendale, Calif., while serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He served his country during World War II in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946.\r\nHe graduated from Medford High School, received his bachelor's degree from UW-EC, his master's degree from UW-Madison, and received his law degree from UW-Madison. After working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he was employed by Continental Insurance for 33 years until his retirement in 1984.\r\nDuring his college years, he played four seasons on the UW-Eau Claire Blugold football team. He also played hockey on the Eau Claire city team. Morris enjoyed golfing, fishing, cross county skiing and traveling. He was a member of Hillcrest Golf and Country Club for many years. Morris also was a member of the Rotary Club, the Eau Claire County and Wisconsin bar associations, Grace Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #53.\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanne; two sons, Dan (Delores), of New Fairfield, Conn., and Brad (Juliana), of Altoona; three grandchildren, Adam, Nathan and Naomi Poquette; a brother, Theodore Poquette, of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Ethel Thornton, of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gordon; and five sisters, Thelma Schroeder, Violet Langseth, Lillie Van Slate, Margaret Hug and Gladys Poquette. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military honor graveside rites. Friends may call an hour prior to services Monday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.\r\nFamily requests that memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or Syverson Lutheran Home.
