Neil F. Nowak, age 69, of Eau Claire, died on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at River Pines (Grace Lutheran Communities) in Altoona, WI.

Neil was born in Eau Claire, WI on December 11, 1954 to Armenia and LaVern Nowak. He attended catholic grade school and high school, graduating from Regis High School in 1973. Neil then attended the UW-Eau Claire, majoring in math and political science. He then continued his education at UW-Eau Claire, graduating with a Master's degree in Business Administration.

After graduation, Neil accepted a position as a manager at John Deere Company in Waterloo, Iowa. Beginning in his 20's, Neil began struggling with mental health issues that would plague him throughout his life. With treatment, Neil was able to live independently in the community. Neil was a train enthusiast beginning in his early life. He built a model railroad layout in his room, creating all the buildings and scenery himself. Neil traveled to many different locations taking photos of trains. He was able to take many train trips throughout the United States. Neil also enjoyed woodworking, making items for family members to enjoy.

At the age of 56, Neil suffered a severe stroke which necessitated his admission to the Syverson Home in Eau Claire and then to River Pines in Altoona. Neil was very involved in the activities programming at the facility. He particularly enjoyed religious services and musical entertainment. Neil also really enjoyed the delicious treats that were provided during meals and activities. He also knew which staff members had a candy dish in their office. Neil truly enjoyed chocolate!

Neil is survived by his sister Eileen (Tim) LaFavor, nephew Jason LaFavor, niece Larissa (Graeme) Harrison, grand-niece Madelynn LaFavor, great-aunts; Judy Adams and Jean Pogneby as well as many cousins.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Chapel of River Pines (Grace Lutheran Communities) Nursing Home (206 N. Willson Drive, Altoona, WI) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024. The family will greet relatives and friends in the River Pines Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.

Neil's family would like to that all staff members of Syverson Home and River Pines who have provided compassionate, loving care and support to Neil. Neil's family would like to express their thanks to St. Croix Hospice who provided end-of-life care to Neil and support to the family.
