Obituary

A Lifetime of Giving. Nola Herger, age 95 of Eau Claire, WI, passed away at Barron Care and Rehab on August 6, 2015 at age 95. She was born December 19, 1919 to Henry and Martha Strauch of Carter, WI and lived there until she was 16 Nola married Ernest Rieper on January 8, 1936 and lived in Carter until 1940 when they moved to Freedom, near Wabeno, then Crandon in 1943 until1945. Nola and Ernest then bought and moved to the Collingwood farm between Cumberland and Barron. Nola lived in the Collingwood area working at home on the farm and raising her eight children for many years. She and Ernest divorced in 1963. She then moved to Barron and worked at Jerome's for several years. Nola married Charles (Chuck) Herger on October 14, 1967. Nola and Chuck moved to Eau Claire and enjoyed 47 wonderful years together, visiting family, playing cards, camping and traveling. Nola worked at Huebsch Laundry for 15 years and also raised and sold raspberries to neighbors and shared them with friends and family. She was a lifelong member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran and was very active in her church family at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Nola loved to stay active and for years she walked about 5 miles each day, greeting each of the Lord's new days with hope and love. Though she didn't begin driving until in her 50's, she put those skills to good use and for many years she transported friends, neighbors and church family to doctors appointments, church services and functions as well as delivering Meals on Wheels with her husband Chuck. She also spent a great amount of time after retiring involved in numerous activities and organizations at church. She served on committees, baked for the cookie walk, helped with fundraising and loved quilting with the ladies. She shared so much of herself and loved to help others, she even spent some nights volunteering at a local homeless shelter and always treated everyone with love and respect. She truly followed,and lived the Word of the Lord. Nola is survived by her siblings: Arnold (Joe) Strauch of Appleton, Douglas Strauch of Atlantic Mine, MI, Henry Jr. Strauch of Wisconsin Rapids, Luella (Eastman) Demske of DePere, her children: Joyce (Rieper-Hendricks) Green of Rice Lake, John (Pat) Rieper of Cumberland, Kerry Rieper of Barron, Fred Rieper of Chippewa Falls, Ron Rieper (Marsha) of Des Moines, IA, and Al Rieper of Maplewood, MN also by her beloved 24 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 42 great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Chuck, her siblings: Harold Strauch, Lucille (Baker) Kassner, Melvin and Selma Strauch, Helen Brown and her children: Christine (Rieper) Hergert of Barronett , and Paul Rieper of Chippewa Falls. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, on Monday, August 10, 2015, 601 Fall St, Eau Claire, WI. With Pastor Russell Kampfer officiating, with burial to follow at Redeemer Lutheran Church Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wi. Visitation is being held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Clairemont Ave, Eau Claire, Wi and also one hour prior to the service a the church.
