Obituary

Norma Sather (Newton), 94, of Altoona WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 4th at home with her daughters by her side.  She was welcomed into heaven not only by her Lord and Savior, but also by her husband, DeLos and son, Rod.  This greatly warmed the hearts of her family to know they were together again.  Norma was born in Eau Claire to Evelyn and Lyman Newton on October 10th, 1929.  She married the love of her life, soul mate, and best friend DeLos on October 11th, 1947.  They were certainly meant for each other and shared 47 years of marriage before DeLos passed away in 2012.  They had 3 children: Rod, Jean and Julie. Norma always put her family first and she felt the greatest benefit of her longevity was to share her love with so many generations of her family! She truly treasured every moment spent with them.

Norma created a loving home while raising their children and later worked at Lee's Uniform Center.  Throughout her life she was an amazing seamstress, sewing everything from her kid's clothing growing up to elaborate wedding dresses for family and friends and of course those treasured "twirly" dresses for all the little girls in the family! She was an excellent cook and baker, loved entertaining and believed you could never have too much Norwegian baking at Christmas time!  She also created beauty with her green thumb, changing a bare yard into a beautiful garden landscape. And summers would not have been the same without ample time at the Joseph cottage on Shell Lake spending time fishing and playing cards with their close friends.  Upon retirement she and Delos volunteered for Step Force at Mayo and they were also very active with First Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge.  Norma and DeLos were fortunate to travel within the US and Norway, often reconnecting with family and friends.

Norma is survived by her two daughters: Jean Joseph and Julie Jackelen, seven grandchildren: Tina (Jason) Lemke, Lisa (Eric) Williams, Angie Foy, Josh Joseph, Jesse Jackelen, Amanda Jackelen and Evan Jackelen, 11 great grandchildren: Erin, Jaime, Tyler, Brady, Andrew, Logan, Joseph, Payton, Wyatt, Indigo and Cashton, and one great-great grandchild: Owen.  She is also survived by her brother, Ken (Ann) Newton and sister, Sister Mary Bernadette Newton, as well as other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will take place at 1pm Thursday, January 11, 2024 at WEST CHAPEL - Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services, 1405 N Clairemont, Eau Claire with a celebration of life starting at 2pm.
