Norman H. Gehrking, 90, of Elmwood and formerly of Eau Claire, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood, Wisconsin, where he had resided for the past five years.\r\nNorman was born November 23, 1919, in Elk Mound, a son of William H. and Mary (Kackman) Gehrking.\r\nNorman served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class from July 19, 1944, until his Honorable Discharge on July 11, 1946.\r\nNorman worked for 30 years at Uniroyal until his retirement.\r\nHe is survived by a son, James (Patricia) of Burnsville, MN; a grandson, Troy (Sherri) Gehrking of Sartell, MN; a granddaughter, Tera Vitale of Eagan, MN; three great-grandchildren; wives Magdalene and Pat of Eau Claire; many step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; special friend, Victoria Woodford; and other relatives and friends.\r\nNorman was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Loraine and Dorothy; a brother, Clarence; three sisters, Hazel Morrisey, Lucille Bergman, and Mable Young.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with the Rev. Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the Town of Elk Mound where VFW Post 305 will present military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials please be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W.
