Norman J. Hanson, 87, of Elk Mound, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. \r\nHe was born in Harlow, ND, on August 24, 1922, a son of Alvin and Caroline (Peterson) Hanson. \r\nNorman joined the Army Air Corps in December of 1942. While enlisted, Norman served in WWII as a tail gunner. He was stationed in India for thirteen months and for eight months on the Island of Tinian until he received his honorable discharge in 1944.\r\nWhen he returned from the service, he went to work for National Presto Industries where he met his wife, Vera Weber. They were married on October 4, 1947, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.\r\nIn 1957, Norman and Vera bought a farm in Elk Mound where they have farmed and lived ever since. Norman also worked 32 years for Uniroyal until his retirement on August 31, 1987.\r\nHe was a very active member of Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Norman loved attending and staying active in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's lives. He was their biggest fan. \r\nNorman is survived by his loving wife, Vera; son, Larry (Marilyn) Hanson and daughter, Debra (Terry) Svihovec both of Elk Mound; four grandchildren, Michael (Julia) Hanson, Jeremy (Amber) Svihovec, Kimberly (Peter) Kohls, and Terry Jr. (Cathy) Svihovec all of Elk Mound; seven great-grandchildren, Norman and Vladimir Hanson, Tyler and Darren Svihovec, Hayden and Jonas Kohls, and Brooke Svihovec; two sisters, Bernice Holt and Eleanor Christianson; two brothers, Victor (Mary) Hanson and Arnold Hanson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Glenn. \r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 13, 2010, at Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church in rural Elk Mound at 4420 20th St., with Pastor Hal A. Schroetter officiating. Burial will be at Big Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire.\r\nNorman was loved by all and will be deeply missed by family, friends, and anyone who knew him. He was one of the kindest people you would meet, and loved to talk and visit with anyone he met. \r\nMemorials may be given to the family to be donated per Norman's request.
