Olive B. Nesja, age 98, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the Syverson Lutheran Home, Eau Claire, WI. Olive was born in Murray, WI on March 30, 1916, a daughter of Ivan and Lenora (Russell) Smalley. Olive will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Lula Aylieff of Eau Claire, Kari Scheidecker of Streator IL and Rachel Goodpaster of Eau Claire; two sons, Melvin Nesja of Eau Claire, and Ole (Teri) Nesja of New Auburn; grandchildren, Roger ( Nancy) Scheidecker, Gary Scheidecker, Zoe (Don) Cassady, Mark (Darlene) Scheidecker, Donald (Gayle)Vatne, Dawn Vatne, Richard (Chantel) Christenson, Theresina (Scott) Schmidt, James Aylieff, Michael Aylieff, Jeremiah Goodpaster and Melissa Nesja; 18 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Friends and family thought of Olive as a special person whose loving, positive and cheerful attitude was a gift to all. She was known for loving the outdoors, working with her hands, playing her fiddle, winemaking, gardening and cooking the most delicious fry bread which was enjoyed by many. Olive was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ole; 6 sisters; 2 brothers; daughters, Sena and Priscilla; step-son John; infant son Baby Nesja; and sons-in-law, Roy Scheidecker, and Russ Aylieff. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014, at Meta A. Trebus Memorial Chapel-The Syverson Lutheran Home, 816 Porter Ave., Eau Claire with Pastor Debra Boynton officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Pinehurst Lutheran Church or the Grace Lutheran Foundation.
