ORWIN B. SANDS, 80, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Luther Hospital. He was born on Feb 10, 1921 to Bert and Orpha (Hagen) Sands in Eau Claire. Orwin was raised in Eau Claire and Pleasant Valley. After graduating from Eleva High School, he attended Dunwoody in Minneapolis. He entered the U.S.Army in 1942, serving during World War II in the Ordinance Company of the European Theatre until 1946. \r\nOrwin married Sylvia Hanson on June 14, 1946. Sylvia died in 1969. He married Theola Edmundson in Eau Claire on September 6, 1970.\r\nWhen he returned from the service, Orwin worked as a mechanic at a garage in Eleva, until taking a job as route supervisor for Huebsch Laundry. He worked there for several years, and then became a clerk for the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1970.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Theola; a daughter, Kari Miller (Mike Helminski) of Ash Fork, AZ; a grandson, Curt (Karla) Sims of Appleton; a granddaughter, Jacque (Greg) Jakubek of Fond du Lac; two great-grandsons, Michael and Kyle Sims; a sister, Beatrice (James) Larson, Eau Claire; a sister-in-law, Minnie Thoen, Eau Claire; and several nieces and nephews.\r\nOrwin is also preceded in death by his parents, an infant son; a brother,Charles; and a sister, Charlotte Clish.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2001 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor John E. Hosmann officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington, where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nHis family suggests memorials be directed to the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd.
