OWEN M. HAUGEN, 76, of 216 Platt St., Eau Claire died Monday, December 20, 1999 at Fall Creek Valley Nursing Home. He was born on June 15, 1923 in Eau Claire to Oscar and Nellie (Lewis) Haugen. Owen graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1941.\r\nHe served with the United States Army Air Corp, 453rd Bomber Group, Squad H from December 11, 1942 to October 10, 1945, serving as a turret gunner on a B-24, flying 10 sorties over enemy held Europe. He went down and was a prisoner of war at Luft Stalag #1 from March 1944 to May 1945. He was awarded the Air Medal and European Theatre Ribbon with 4 Battle Stars.\r\nOwen worked 40 years as a tire builder at Uniroyal Tire Company until retiring in 1986.\r\nHe was a Life Member and a Past Commander of the DAV Eau Claire #10, a Life Member of American Ex-Prisoners of War, a Past Commander of American Legion Post #53, a member of Voiture 525, 40 et 8 Brackett, WI, VFW Post #305 and Lodge #112 F&AM.\r\nSurvivors include two sons, John Haugen of Eau Claire and Paul (Alison) Haugen of Rochedale, England; daughter, Amy Haugen of Oak Park, IL; and six grandchildren, Charlie, Suveer, Elizabeth, Emily, Catie and Charley.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Jerry, Roger and Maurice Haugen.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Mary L. Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Church Cemetery where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
