Obituary

Pamela S. Johnson, 62, of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, January 14 at Meadowbrook of Bloomer. She was born June 5, 1962 in Beloit, WI to David and Anita Johnson. Pam graduated from the Program for the Deaf at La Cross Central High in 1983 and began work at L.E. Phillips CDC soon after, where she worked until her health deteriorated in August 2024. Born premature with physical handicaps and profound deafness, she was the first Deaf Girl Scout in Eau Claire at the age of 13 and was featured in the paper. She loved adventure, travel, and sports. She participated for many years in volleyball and track in Special Olympics. Pam was a long-time member of the Eau Claire Fishing Club and enjoyed showing off her trophy pictures. In later years, she loved knitting and crocheting, reading, watching the Food Network and sports (especially the Badgers!). She loved CDC and enjoyed feeling useful, along with participating in the great activities (Chris Kroeze, Blue Angels, Eau Claire Express to name a few favorites!) Her love of cats was shared with everyone who knew her. She loved to laugh and make others laugh. She will be missed. Pam was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by brother Jeff (Marie) Johnson of South Carolina, and by sister Melissa (Mike) Kysely and niece Taylor (Trevor) Kent - all of Medford, WI. Special thanks to CDC, caregiver Linda Williams, St. Croix Hospice, and all the staff at Meadowbrook - especially Abi for her gift of joy. The funeral will be private, with arrangements by Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn and burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of memorials, please donate to the Eau Claire Humane Society, The Lupus Foundation of America or perform an act of kindness for someone less fortunate in life's lottery.
