Paul Robert "Bob" Wenberg, age 90, passed on April 21st, 2016 at The Clairemont Nursing Home, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on September 14, 1925 in International Falls, MN to Paul C. Wenberg and Jane (Tate) Wenberg. They moved to Minneapolis and then Eau Claire, WI where Bob graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1943. Bob served his country as a pilot in the US Navy and Naval Reserve for 13 years. He sustained his endless love of aviation as a pilot in the Eau Claire Civil Air Patrol and multiple hobbies over the years. Bob attended John Carroll University, NC; Minnesota School of Business; and Michigan College of Mining and Technology in Houghton, Michigan. He married his sweetheart, Elizabeth "Betty" Husting on May 10, 1952 at Guardian Angels Church in Hastings, MN. They started their life together in Denver, CO, and then returned to Eau Claire where Bob was in business with his father at Wenberg Lumber Company. He built their home at Elk Creek Lake and was president of the lake association. His skills in construction and woodworking are still apparent in the endeavors of his sons and grandsons. Bob was an active member of St. Patrick's Church where he sang in the choir for over 45 years and supported catholic education by sending his 5 children to St Patrick's and Regis schools. Bob was a true family man and enjoyed camping, swimming, and many other winter and summer sports with his children and grandchild in tow. Bob's love of music brought him joy throughout his life. He played multiple instruments, including clarinet, piano, accordion and guitar while continually encouraging his children and grandchildren on their musical paths. Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Betty, of 64 years, children and grandchildren, Barb (Mark) Travis--Jessica, Nic, & Erik; Steve (Jayne) Wenberg—Kelsey & Ryan; Patti (Pete) Koupal; Jayne (Earl) Kessel—Sara & Adam; and David (Patty) Wenberg—Allie, Nicki, & Ben; 5 great grandchild and two sisters, Eileen Wahl, and Karen Kandell, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Jeanne Miller, and brother-in-law Chris Kandell. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Weiss and Dr. Attermeier, and the nurses and staff of the 800 Unit at The Clairemont for their care, support and friendship. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 416 N. Dewey St. in Eau Claire with Father George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Visitation will be and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.
