Paul J. Belland Sr., 77 of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1925, the son of Albert and Martine (Cloutier) Belland, in Thief River Falls, MN. As a teenager Paul moved with his family to Superior, WI. He served in the European and Pacific Theaters with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1947. Paul married Juanita Tyler on November 5, 1949 in Superior, Wisconsin. He worked as a Telegrapher for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad until his retirement in 1983. Paul was a member of the Amateur Radio Club. He was also a member of the Locomotive and Tower Preservation Fund, in which he was involved in the relocation and restoration of the switching tower now located in Carson Park. Paul was a dedicated husband and father who enjoyed spending his free time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Juanita; three daughters, Yvonne Belland of Honolulu, HI, Susanne (Ralph) Schuch and Catherine (Bruce) King both of Eau Claire; five sons, Alan of Racine, Paul Jr. of Eau Claire, Donald (Carol) of Rogers, AK, Thomas of Sheboygan and Gregory of Eau Claire; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Kitty) of Chippewa Falls, Gabriel (Betty) of Omaha, NE and Leo of Texas; two sisters, Rose Thompson of Olympia, WA and Cecelia (George) Byrnes of San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Myres. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2002 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Friday at the church. There will be a public prayer vigil service 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
