Obituary

Ralph M. Statz, 91, of Eau Claire, peacefully passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Friday, October 18, 2024. Ralph was born on June 25, 1933, the son of Wolfgang and Elizabeth (Dome) Statz. He was the second youngest of fifteen children. Ralph graduated from McDonell High Catholic School in Chippewa Falls in 1952. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954 and served until 1956, where he spent much of his time working for the Army Corp of Engineers in Alaska. After being honorably discharged, he returned home and married Shirley Feeney at St Mary's in Viroqua, WI, April 28, 1956. They had four children. After 45 years of marriage, Shirley passed away on April 13, 2001, after a long illness. Ralph later met Janet Kurth and started a new chapter. They married at Sacred Heart Parish of Eau Claire on January 5, 2002, and enjoyed life together for eighteen years until Janet's passing in December 2019. Ralph was a carpenter by trade, and was a proud member of local union 1074. He spent his career working union jobs on large construction sites, and as a self-employed home builder building homes throughout the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls areas. After retiring at the age of 62, Ralph built a woodworking shop, started a cabinet building business, and enjoyed doing other woodworking projects for the next twenty-plus years. Of the many projects he completed, he was most proud of the oak exterior doors he built for Sacred Heart Church in Eau Claire. Ralph was a good husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family whenever he had the chance. He was an avid hunter who claimed to have shot over 50 bucks throughout his life. He loved fishing, especially at the Big Falls in the spring where he was usually able to catch his daily limit. In his later years, as life slowed him down, he still enjoyed getting outside, walking, cooking meals for his family, and going out for daily breakfast with friends at the VFW. Dad: Your love, your good sense of humor, and your quick wit will be very much missed. Ralph is survived by his brother, Vincent; children: Robert (Jean), Michael (Lynn), Lore; grandchildren: Daniel (Kayla), Heather (Tony), Thomas (Amanda), Melissa (Aaron); and three great grandchildren: Brian, Eleanor, Nathaniel and future grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Elizabeth, Martha, Mary, Angeline, Ann, Joanne Jeanette; brothers: Louis, George, John, Gilbert, Bill, Wilbert; wives: Shirley, Janet; and daughter Roxane. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Sacred Heart Parish, 416 N. Dewey St. in Eau Claire with Father Michael Kloss officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the Mass at the church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Eau Claire, WI.
