Obituary

Raymond E. Schilling, 74, of Eau Claire died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born in Eau Claire on November 8, 1928 the son of Edward and Viola (Poole) Schilling. Ray served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He was a tire builder at Uniroyal until his retirement in 1983. Ray married June G. Hilson at Little Elk Creek Lutheran Church on May 29, 1949. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member at Hillcrest Golf Course. \r\nHe enjoyed country music and dancing with June to old time music, and had a life long passion for golf. He umpired for 35 years with Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, and was head umpire for many of those years. He was a life long Old Abe supporter and enjoyed any sports his grandsons played especially baseball.\r\nSurvivors include his son, Karsten Schilling of Madison; daughter, Cindy (David) Fleming of Eau Claire; grandson, Jacob (fiancé Lindsey Moeller) Fleming of Oakdale, MN; step brother, Delmar (Frannie) Johnson and step sister, Diane (Dr. Carl) Manz both of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, Sylvester (Lillian) Hilson of Menomonie; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Larson, Borghild (Raymond) Morley and Carol (Douglas) Olson all of Eau Claire; several nieces and nephews; and his many close friends.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, June; his parents; a grandson, Joshua Fleming; a sister-in-law, Gilma Wieman; and two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Wieman and Arland Larson.\r\nMemorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Kurt M. Jacobson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Babe Ruth Baseball or the donor's choice.
