Raymond Earl Sly, 83, of 2120 Heights Drive., died Saturday, February 22, 2003 at his residence. He was born May 3, 1919, the son of John C. and Blanche (Eighmy) Sly in Wheeler, Wisconsin. Ray married Marlene Ames on January 31, 1940 in Decorah, IA.\r\nHe served with the U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He was a member of VFW Post #7232.\r\nRay was a tire builder and serviceman at Uniroyal Tire Co. until his retirement in 1972.\r\nHe and Marlene loved to dance and Raymond also enjoyed playing bingo.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Marlene; son, Donald (Donna) Sly of Chippewa Falls; four daughters, Darlene Manix, Jeri (Verlin) Eckwright and Carol (Keith) Jorgensen all of Eau Claire and Sharon (Wayne) Ouimet of Cornell; fifteen grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Vernon, Harold, Hugh, Fred, Howard, Kenneth and Lawrence; and five sisters, Mildred, Phyllis, Dorothy, Hazel and Opal.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Steven M. George officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Church Cemetery where V.F.W. Post #305 will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
