Obituary

Raymond Frederick Wahl, 95, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, September 7, 2006, at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Menomonie, Wisconsin. He was born in Streator, IL on November 29, 1910, the son of William and Mary (McDermott) Wahl. \r\nAt an early age Ray and his family moved to Worthington, MN where they farmed and owned a dairy. After graduation from Worthington High School in 1929, he moved to Minneapolis where he was a shoe salesman and a meat cutter. He later sold electric and gas appliances in Durand and then for Zenith Sales in Eau Claire. During the 1940's he was the proprietor of Maytag Sales and Service in Eau Claire. In 1949 Ray moved to Grand Forks, ND, as a salesman for George A. Clark&Sons of Minneapolis, a general hardware wholesaler. He called on accounts from the Canadian border to Fargo, and west to Devils Lake. In the early 1960's he was transferred back to Eau Claire, when his friend Bill Ford, retired. Upon retirement from Clark&Sons he became a salesman for Kovar Mfg. of Anoka, MN selling small farm implements throughout the Midwest.\r\nOn November 23, 1936, he married Alta Beatrice "Bea" Ableidinger at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Durand \r\nRay was one of the original members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Eau Claire, a member of Toastmasters, Jaycees and the Elks Clubs of Eau Claire and Grand Forks.\r\nRay is survived by his son James D. ( Laura nee-Wilner) of Menonomie; two grandchildren, Steven Robert (Terri nee-Anderson) Wahl of Chanhassen, MN, Nancy Lynn (Craig) Bares of Minneapolis; two great-granddaughters, Jennifer Ann Wahl and Greta Talum Bares ; two great-grandsons, Alexander James Wahl and Brian Robert Wahl; and nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bea; two brothers, John of Eau Claire and William of Wilmot, MN; and an infant sister.\r\nMass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2006, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Eugene A. Klink officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. There will be a 6:30 p.m. Public Prayer Service Sunday evening at the funeral home.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to Immaculate Conception Church, 1702 Highland Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701
