Obituary

Richard B. Holmen, 87, of Eau Claire went to his heavenly home on June 7, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. \r\nHe was born in Osseo, WI on May 21, 1922, the son of Jap and Grace (Williams) Holmen.\r\nRichard lived in Osseo for about 20 years, where he farmed with his father. They moved to Ingraham, WI and lived there about five years. The family then moved to Eau Claire where Dick was employed at the Oak Park Dairy for 22 years. He was then employed by the Eau Claire Board of Education working as a custodian retiring in 1987.\r\nRichard married Gladys L. Mayo-Miley on March 25, 1952, in Nashua, IA. She passed away on February 3, 2009.\r\nHe was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as an usher for 47 years. Richard will be remembered for his hugs, smiles, and warm hand shakes. \r\nAmong Richard's favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing, working outdoors, and feeding the birds.\r\nRichard is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (David) Schone of Eau Claire; step-daughter, Carol (Dick) Davis of Baraboo; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Jenell) Simons, Kurt (Susan) Simons, Jonathan (Melody) Davis, Janey (Matthew) Hundley, Julie (David) DeNoyer, Janelle (Jonathan) Langford, and Joy (Andrew) Adams; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Jeanette Riphenburg of Neillsville, WI; two sisters-in-law, Muriel Custer of Bloomer, WI, and Marian (Dale) Krammes of Eau Claire; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Gladys; three sisters, Ruth, Harriet, and Marie; and step-daughter, Audrey Simons.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church in Eau Claire with Pastor John Van Gorkom officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.\r\nThe family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Sacred Heart Hospital Dialysis Unit for all of their loving care. As a dialysis patient for a little over two years, Richard made many friends whom he loved as family and was always thankful for his time with them.\r\n
