Richard R. Olson, 84, of Eau Claire and formerly of Maple Lake, MN, died Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Syverson Lutheran Home. He was born in Hutchinson, MN on February 11, 1922, the son of Andy and Lucille (Putney) Olson. \r\nHe graduated from Mechanics Arts High School in St. Paul, MN. \r\nRichard was on the staff at Camp Courage near Maple Lake, MN for over 50 years. There he was known as the beloved "Uncle Al" where he also enjoyed performing as a clown with his Boston terrier "Mr. Jiggs".\r\nRichard married Helen Torgelson on May 26, 1973, at Camp Courage.\r\nSurvivors include two brothers, James (Margaret) Olson of Eau Claire and Andrew (Aune) Olson of Aurora, CO; two sisters, Marilyn (James) Fellows of Rochester, MN and Gladys (Calvin) Blatchford of Antioch, TN; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nRichard was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and his parents.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Syverson Lutheran Home, 816 Porter Ave., with Pastor Debra Boynton officiating. Burial will be in Big Bend Lutheran Church Cemetery, Big Bend Township, MN, at a later date. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of services Sunday at Syverson Lutheran Home.
