Richard "Dick" Lawrence Smith, 75, formerly of 3242 May St., Eau Claire died Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at Luther Hospital.\r\nDick was born in Sawyer County on February 24, 1930, the son of Harry C. and LaVerne Mae (Lawrence) Smith. He graduated from University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire in 1953 attaining a Bachelors Degree in Education. Dick taught junior high school in Ladysmith for one year before moving back to Eau Claire.\r\nDick married Janice Mae Nelson on April 11, 1953 in Blair, Wisconsin. He was a sales representative for Curtis 1000 for 28 years. Following his retirement, he went on to work part-time for American Solutions for Business.\r\nBesides enjoying time with his family, Dick enjoyed walking with his friends and pets, Canadian fishing trips, golfing, snow skiing, and reading. He was a devoted member of his community and First Lutheran Church. \r\nDick was a member of Sanctuary Lodge #347 F&AM and also a plural member of Eau Claire Lodge #112. He became a Master Mason on October 7, 1965 and was Past Master in 1973 and 1993. Dick also was the Mason of the year in 1998 and a member of the Eau Claire Scottish Rite Valley where he received a special recognition award in 1999. He also was a member of Eau Claire Chapter #36 Royal Arch Masons, Chippewa Council #25, Royal and Select Masters, Eau Claire Commandery #8, Knights Templar, Zor Shrine Temple of Madison, and Mehara Shrine Club of Eau Claire.\r\nDick is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janice; his two daughters, Rebecca (Timothy) Oldfield, of Oswego, New York, and Diane (Rodney) Hill, of Onalaska, Wisconsin; his son, Bradley (Mary) Smith, of Lakeside, Montana; 8 grandchildren, Cari&Kayla Oldfield, Jami, Katelynn&Danielle Hill, and Jessica, Justin & Amanda Smith.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James; three sisters, Janette Bullard, Carol Flackey, and June Schmensky.\r\nMemorial services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2005, at First Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, with Pastor Amy Odgren officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire, where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #53. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701 or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2025 East River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55414.\r\n
