Robert M. Basacker Sr., 79, of Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Bob was born on November 30, 1936, in Eau Claire, to Robert and Ruth (Dennis) Basacker. He attended school in Eau Claire and served in the United States Air Force. Bob worked as a diesel mechanic for Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Altoona and retired from the railroad in Superior, Wisconsin. On June 15, 2001, Bob married Mary Fleming in Eau Claire. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved to be outdoors. He was very active in the American Legion Post 53 in Eau Claire. Bob is survived his wife, Mary; seven children, Peggy (Steve) Coach, Robert Jr. (Gert) Basacker, James Basacker, Ary (Arlo) Luedtke, Anson (Melissa Osbborn) Basacker, Yvonne (Sabino Hernandez) Basacker and Matthew Basacker; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Theodore (Marge) Basacker; one sister, Janice Peterson; brother-in-law, Gerald Peterson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Ann Basacker; and three great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire with Chaplin Laban Miller officiating and military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 53. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.
