Obituary

ROBERT D. BENJAMIN, 76, of 2518 Abbe Hill Drive, Eau Claire, died Saturday, January 29, 2000 at Luther Hospital. He was born on September 14, 1923 in Eau Claire to Harry and Mildred (Reinhardt) Benjamin. Bob lived in Nelson until 1940, then he moved to Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School with the class of 1942. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in December of 1942 and served in the European Theater from 1943 to 1945. Bob flew in 13 missions and was wounded over Berlin. He received many medals, including the Purple Heart.\r\nOn March 31, 1945, he married M. Kay Lyons in Wiggins, Mississippi. He was a mechanical engineer for several architecture firms in Eau Claire until his retirement in 1982. They then moved to Cable, WI, where he built their retirement home and pursued his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.\r\nBob was a member of the VFW Post # 305 and the American Legion Post #53.\r\nSurvivors include his wife of 54 years, Kay; two daughters, Linda (Micky) Larson of Rothschild, and Sue (Randy) Zuech of Eau Claire; grand-daughter, Paula (Eric) Ryan; great grandson, Devan of Kansas City, MO; sister, Margie (Raymond) Johnson of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents.\r\nMemorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, with Luther Hospital Chaplain Resident Craig Mansur officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 until time of services. The American Legion Post #53 will conduct a visitation vigil at 7 p.m. to start the service.\r\n
