Obituary

Robert G. Fallis, (W9BAR), age 86, of the town of Seymour, Eau Claire County, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, in an automobile accident. He was born in the town of Webster, WI on January 26, l922, to Robert Frank Fallis and Eva Joyce (James) Fallis. \r\nIn 1939, he received his ham radio license, graduated from Shell Lake High School, and entered the military to be a radio operator. In World War II, Bob heroically served with the 32nd infantry division in the Philippines. After the war he worked for Pan Am Airlines as a radio operator in South America. Bob then returned home to northern Wisconsin, working to open up the airwaves to FM radio. \r\nWhile at a dance in Rice Lake he met and later married his wife and life partner, Ruth Lydia Heldke. They were married in l950. They spent most of their married life in Eau Claire. He continued his service to the country, retiring as a Major from the National Guard in 1965. \r\nFor most of Bob's professional life, he worked for WEAU-TV / WAXX in Eau Claire, and retired in 1985 as chief engineer. Bob was actively involved in many community organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Lions Club, Ham Radio Club, VFW, and Moose Club. He was a member and served on several boards of directors for St. John's Lutheran Church.\r\nRuth and their three children, W. Mikel Fallis of Sacramento, CA, Eva M. Fallis of San Leandro CA, and Gloria A. Fallis and her husband Steve Ashenbrucker of Park Falls; his brother, Howard J. Fallis of Spooner; as well as many others will miss him dearly. He lived and died a hero.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula K. Fallis; and two sisters, Amy Palmer and Theresa Young. \r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Ave., Eau Claire with Pastor Roger R. Skatrud officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery near Spooner with military honors at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30th. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving his family.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be directed in Bob's name to the Seymour Lions Club, P.O.
