While hearing his wind chimes play their last song and surrounded by loving family, Robert E. Fisher, 90, of Eau Claire, passed away at his home on September 6, 2013. He was under the excellent care of St. Joseph's Hospice. Bob was born on July 14, 1923, to Frank and Lydia (Porter) Fisher. He lived in Eau Claire his entire life and graduated from St. Patrick's High School. He married the love of his life, Avis Gullickson, on August 10, 1946, and together they raised 12 children on their 240 acre, picturesque dairy farm. Bob retired from farming in 1987 but lived there with his beautiful bride of 66 years until she passed in September 2012. He is now reunited with Avis who he missed so much. Both had a strong Christian faith and were charter members of St. James the Greater Catholic Church. Bob was a gentle, humble, compassionate, intelligent man who believed in the importance of talking less and listening more. He appreciated a good book, soothing music, and dancing to a favorite waltz or polka. Everyone enjoyed his unassuming, charming personality and quick wit. He took immense pride in providing for his family and he and Avis worked tirelessly to make the farm the impressive and tranquil place it still is today. One of Bob's greatest passions was traveling, especially taking road trips where the beauty of this nation never ceased to amaze him. He loved fishing with his family from one of the many area lakes and also in Canada. He enjoyed feeding the incredible variety of birds that found the farm as abundant and peaceful as he did. On his tractor he could whistle back perfectly the sweet refrain. Bob was a dearly loved and respected man who lived each day with strength, honesty and integrity. He treasured the simple joys in life, especially his large, close-knit family and dear friends, who will all miss him more than words can say. Bob is survived by 4 sons, Dave (Debbie) of Eau Claire, Rick (Carol) of Oak Grove, MN, Bob (Sherry) of Maryville, TN, Jeff (Paula) of Janesville; 7 daughters, Jeanne Wiese of Tomah, Sue Bridges of Eau Claire, Terese (Brent) Redmond of Marshfield, Ginny (Rod) Hamman of Eau Claire, Denise Black of Eau Claire, Julie (Tom) Norgaard of Eau Claire, Missy (Greg) Follansbee of Eau Claire; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Heffernan, Mary Patricia Duerkop, and Kathleen Fisher, all of Eau Claire; brother/sisters-in-law, Curt and Deanna Gullickson, Mary Alice Fisher, and Bernadette Fisher; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
