Rev. Robert E. Goessling, 76, of 735 Roberts St., Altoona died Sunday April 7, 2002 at Syverson Lutheran Home, Eau Claire. He was born July 15, 1925 to Alfred and Violet Goessling and grew up in Janesville. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1948. Bob married Hope Kraft on June 20, 1948 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.\r\nHe was ordained in the Congregational Church in 1952, following his seminary education at Hartford Seminary, Hartford Connecticut. Bob served his first church in Lucas, Ohio and then moved to Wisconsin to serve a number of churches throughout his ministry, including Congregational and United Church of Christ churches in Mellen, Barneveld, Owen, Fountain City, Stratford, Marshfield and Elkhart Lake. Since retirement he has been an active member of Plymouth United Church of Christ, serving on the church council and its commissions.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Hope; daughter, Mary (Greg) Barnes of Altoona and their family, Adam, Tim and Chelsea; son, Tom (Carolyn) of Burnsville, Minn. and their family, Ben and Hannah; a sister, Jean (Fritz) Jaeger of Marinette; three sisters-in-law, June Heisler, Carol Westphal and Helen McCue all of Fond du Lac; and many loving nieces and nephews.\r\nBob was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, David.\r\nMemorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002 at Plymouth United Congregational Church of Christ with Pastor Chris W. Myers officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts may be given to the building fund of Plymouth United Church of Christ.
