Robert W. Hanson, 81, of Eau Claire, died Sunday, September 7, 2008, at Syverson Lutheran Home under the care of Northwest Hospice and the caring Syverson Home staff.\r\nHe was born on October 4, 1926, in Reading, PA, the son of Lawrence and Helen Hanson. After the death of his mother, he was brought to Eau Claire and raised by his grandparents, William and Olivia Petrick.\r\nAfter his 3rd year of High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served until the time of his honorable discharge in 1946. \r\nRobert married Maurita L. Kent on December 30, 1948, in Mondovi. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary December 30, 2008.\r\nRobert worked as a meat cutter at the farmers store in Eau Claire. He later worked at Uniroyal as a tire builder. On April 21, 1961, he began his career at the United States Post Office in Eau Claire. He worked until his retirement on January 7, 1983.\r\nIn his 25 years of retirement he enjoyed working in the yard and going to the casinos occasionally, especially Las Vegas. \r\nRobert was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.\r\nRobert is survived by his wife, Maurita; a son, Bob Hanson of Chippewa Falls; a daughter, Helen (Kieu) Ha of Green Bay, WI; six grandchildren, Joe (Brenda) Beaudette of Green Bay, Karen (Robert) Strickland of Orlando, FL; Hoang Ha and Huong Ha both of Green Bay; Bobby Hanson of Savannah, GA, Laura (Brian) Oldfield of Eau Claire; four great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Duttie (Ruthie) Kent of Mondovi; and a very special dear friend Roxanne Wile of Eau Claire. \r\nRobert was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eugene.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 11, 2008, at Hope Lutheran Church in Eau Claire with Pastor Randy Olson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at church.\r\nThe family would like to extend their thanks to the Syverson Lutheran Home, the doctors and staff of Luther Hospital, and to Pastor Randy Olson for all of their special and tender care.\r\n
