Robert C. "Bob" Melby, 77, of 1207 Agnes Street, died Sunday, July 7, 1996 at his home as a result of cancer. He was born September 6, 1918 at Brainerd, Minnesota to Edwyn and Eleanora (Wagner) Melby. He graduated form Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1937 and Eau Claire Vocational Technical School in 1939. Bob served in the U.S. Army as a medic during WW II from 1942 until his honorable discharge on December 5, 1945. He married Eunice Snyder in September 1949 in Eau Claire. On May 29, 1962, Bob married Barbara J. Amundson in Eau Claire.\r\nHe was a letter carrier with the U.S. Post Office for thirty four years until his retirement in 1978. Bob was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Brackett VFW Post # 550, Eau Claire VFW Post #305, and Voiture 525, 40 et 8. As a past leader of Boy Scout Troop #88, he received the Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge.\r\nSurvivors include his wife of thirty four years, Barbara; three sons, Michael (Kathy) Asmussen of Eau Claire, Steven Melby and Kenneth Melby both of MT; five daughters, Vickie Ellis, Diane Melby, Gayle (Mitch) Clark and Barbara Kramer all of Eau Claire and Cheryl (George L.) Brock of Chippewa Falls; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Lilah Buhr of Stewart,MN; a half sister, Lynn(Pat)Thompson and his step mother, Slyvia Melby both of Fair Oaks, CA.\r\nBob was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dawn Doreen and his parents.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary F. Sahs officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery, Town of Washington with military graveside rites conducted by Voiture 525, 40 et 8 Eau Claire County. Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home is serving the Family.
