Obituary

Robert J.G. Neubauer, "Bob," 77, formerly of 1416 Lee St, died Monday, January 27, 1997 at the Eau Claire Center of Care after a prolonged illness of several months. Eau Claire lost one of its most ardent promoters and friends. \r\nBob was born in Sheboygan, WI on October 14, 1919 the son of Robert John and Jennie (Stanger)Neubauer. Bob was raised along with three "adopted" cousins (two surviving) in Sheboygan, graduating from Sheboygan High School. He studied at DeVry Institute, Milwaukee, in electronics and at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, in computer systems and programming. He married Ruth Hulda Maria West on August 30, 1944 in Ironwood, Michigan and had three sons and one daughter raised in the Eau Claire area since 1957.\r\nRobert led a rewarding career in accounting and sales for leading retail and wholesale food companies including Montgomery Wards, Milwaukee Cheese, and Reinhardt foods. He was well known regionally by restaurant, grocery, and resort owners for his commitment to exceptional customer service. In his later years he worked for the Lutheran Layman's Movement, using his promotion skills to fund new churches, hospitals, camps, and social service organizations throughout North America. After retiring, Bob continued to serve the area in various volunteer capacities in many organizations including the Republican Party, the Eau Claire Mainstreet Association, the Chippewa Valley Museum, and AARP's 55 Alive Program. He served in various capacities at Immanuel Lutheran Church and the local Council of Churches pursuing his life long commitments to service to others of all ages and races. Over the years Bob received numerous commendations for the services he offered others locally and throughout North America. One of his favorite supporters and friends was ex-President Jimmy Carter.\r\nBob loved model railroading and was active in the Chippewa Valley Model Railroading Club. His portable railroading layouts have been enjoyed by numerous local children. Bob also traveled eagerly throughout North America, sharing numerous trips with his wife, Ruth, and camping outings with friends and family. \r\nBob is survived by three sons, Richard (Marjorie), Seattle,WA, Randall, Tri County Hospital, Independence; and the Rev. Dr. Robert (Jean), Edmonds,OK; a daughter Ruth (Bruce) Schafer, Appleton, WI; six grandchildren, Jennifer Osborn; Timothy, Joshua, Rachel, and Alyssa Neubauer; and Christopher Schafer; one and one half great grandchildren, and two cousins, Aduska Lukow and Marion Heidenreiter, both of Sheboygan, WI.\r\nHe was proceeded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents, three infant siblings, and his cousin Alice Lubenow (Sheboygan).\r\nThe burial service celebrating Bob's life will be conducted at 2 PM Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor David K. Anderson and The Rev. Dr. Robert Neubauer officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home is serving the family.\r\nThe family request that memorials be made to any of Bob's causes including Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Laity Movement, the Chippewa Valley Museum, and the L. E. Phillips Senior Center. Bob's greatest tribute is in the gratitude of the people he helped throughout his life.
