Obituary

Robert H. Walter of Eau Claire died at the age of 85 years. Robert was born in the Town of Delmar, WI on January 23, 1938, a son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Lauer) Walter. His family then moved to Boyd, WI. In 1945, they then moved to Eau Claire, where Robert went to school at Sacred Heart Grade school and Regis High School. Robert served in the 397th U.S. Army Reserves, enlisting in 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1966. At Fort Leonard Wood, he operated a D-8CAT and did scraper grading for the airport. He attended the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire starting in 1960 and received his Bachelor's Degree in 1964. Robert worked for the City of Eau Claire, surveying for utilities - sewer, water, sidewalks, curbs and gutters. He set building grades for houses in the Sam Davey school area. He was also on crews that surveyed for utilities from Putnam Heights - State Street to Fairfax, East Clairemont and South of Cameron Street, E. North side area, West of Anderson Rd and North of Eddy Lane. He was also a Q.A&E Supervisor at Uniroyal and a Realtor. Robert traveled to both Coasts of the United States: swam in the Pacific Ocean, went up in the Space Needle in the State of Washington, saw the Columbia and Hoover Dams, and Grand Canyon. While out East he saw the Liberty Bell and meeting place of our forefathers. He had also traveled to Tijuana, Mexico and Salt Lake City, Utah. He traveled to Canada several times. Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert is survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen (Greg) Gullickson; and grandchildren: Ella, Maria, and Joseph of Hewitt, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin Walter; and sister, Rosalie Anderson. Robert's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Oak Gardens Assisted Living and all Hospice care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 448 N. Dewey St, Eau Claire, with Fr. Antony Joseph officiating. Visitation will be from 1 hour prior at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 53 and VFW 7232.
