Popelka, age 59, of Eau Claire, died unexpectedly\r\nof a heart attack at his home on Sunday, April 10, 2011.\r\n\r\nBob was born May 13, 1951, in Hayward,\r\n WI to Joseph and Anna (Giese)\r\nPopelka. He grew up in Hayward, graduating from Hayward High School in 1969. He\r\nreceived a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from UW-Eau Claire in 1973 and\r\nlater completed an English degree. Bob married Paula J. Stuettgen in Eau Claire\r\nMay 21, 1977.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nHe worked for Farmers Store Appliance and TV as retail\r\nadvertising director from 1974 until his retirement in 2009. His skills went\r\nbeyond advertising to developing and managing stores at different times during\r\nhis tenure with FS, and he was professionally active in the Western Wisconsin\r\nAd Club. He also owned a small business, Engraved Impressions. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDuring college, his love of music and the arts led him to\r\ninvolvement in the UW-Eau Claire Singing Statesmen for three years. As a member\r\nof the community, he served the University's Viennese Ball committee for 25\r\nyears, three of those as co-chairman, with specific responsibility for the\r\nEdelweiss Markt; he was a patron and supporter of the Eau Claire Regional Arts\r\nCenter; and he thoroughly enjoyed dancing - especially the Viennese waltz - as\r\nwell as theatre, concerts and music festivals.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nBob and Paula traveled the world, but their favorite place\r\nwas a lake cabin in the Wisconsin north woods. There, they could enjoy each\r\nother, family, friends and the company of their constant "pack" of Scottish\r\nTerriers. They have supported a regional Scottie rescue program as volunteers,\r\nproviding an adoptive home for rescued dogs. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nBob was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. He is\r\nsurvived by Paula Stuettgen, his loving wife of 34 years; brothers, Roger\r\n(Barbara) Popelka of Cable and Joseph (Cathy) Popelka of Oconomowoc; sisters,\r\nJodell (Bill) Daniels of Wichita, KS and Helen (Quentin) Ruprecht of Barnes;\r\nbrothers-in-law, Ted Banks of Alamo, TX and Dennis (Nancy) Stuettgen of\r\nColgate; mother-in-law, Grace Stuettgen of Menomonee Falls; many nieces,\r\nnephews and friends; and his Scottish Terrier, Tucker MacCloud.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nHe is preceded in death by parents; sister, Mary Ann\r\n(Popelka) Banks; and father-in-law, Norbert Stuettgen.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMemorial Service will be at 11AM on Saturday, April 16,\r\n2011, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, with\r\nFather John Schultz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the\r\nservice. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hayward, WI at a later date.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Eau Claire Regional Arts\r\n Center or Memory of\r\nMonroe Scottie Rescue, PO Box 44482, Eden Prairie, MN 55344.\r\n \r\n Normal\r\n 0\r\n \r\n \r\n false\r\n false\r\n false\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n MicrosoftInternetExplorer4\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\nst1\\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) }\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n /* Style Definitions */\r\n table.MsoNormalTable\r\n {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";\r\n mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;\r\n mso-tstyle-colband-size:0;\r\n mso-style-noshow:yes;\r\n mso-style-parent:"";\r\n mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;\r\n mso-para-margin:0in;\r\n mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt;\r\n mso-pagination:widow-orphan;\r\n font-size:10.0pt;\r\n font-family:"Times New Roman";\r\n mso-ansi-language:#0400;\r\n mso-fareast-language:#0400;\r\n mso-bidi-language:#0400;}\r\n\r\n
