Obituary

Robert "Bob" L. Putzier, 73, of 2913 Uranus Ave., died Friday, September 20, 1996 at his home. He was born April 12, 1923 in Wisconsin Rapids to William and Viola (Frank) Putzier. He graduated in 1940 from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. Bob joined the City Point CCC Camp in 1940 and then joined the Merchant Marines in 1942. He enlisted in the US Army Air Force during World War II serving as a radio operator and then 10 months as a waist gunner aboard a B-25 with the EarthQuakers Squadron where he flew 78 missions in the China-India-Burma Theatre. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 10, 1945. He received his Bachelor of Education degree from Central State Teacher's College in Stevens Point in 1951. Bob married Louise Oelrich on November 24, 1951 in Spencer. He taught in rural Wittenberg, Newald and Horicon before they moved to Eau Claire where he taught 19 years at Bartlett and Park Elementary Schools until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Eau Claire Area Retired Educators Assoc.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Louise; two daughters, Linda (Larry) Stelter of Eau Claire and Marilyn Putzier of Lake Havasu City, AZ; two grandsons, Aaron and Jordan Stelter both of Eau Claire; a sister, Lucille (Donald) Kegler of Wisconsin Rapids; several nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elmer.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 2 P.M. Monday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel A. Hoelter officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery, Town of Washington with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post # 305. Friends may call 4:15 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
