Obituary

Roberta "Birdie" H. Whittenbeen, 85, formerly of Eau Claire died Friday, December 10, 2004, at Fall Creek Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Eleva on October 6, 1919, the daughter of Harry and Cleo (Englesby) Hanson. Roberta graduated from Eleva High School with the class of 1937. \r\nShe married Melvin Jacobson. After his death in 1943, Roberta married Leonard W. Whittenbeen in California on February 1, 1945. They owned and operated Wildernest Resort in Winter, WI until 1972. She was a bartender at the Eau Claire Moose Lodge and volunteered as a greeter at Sacred Heart Hospital.\r\nSurvivors include a her son, Robert "Butch" Whittenbeen of AZ; two daughters, Joan (Bob) Rosenberg of Jim Falls and Mickey Lee of Red Wing, MN; three granddaughters, Kim (Brian) Heller of Augusta, Kay (Mark) Johnson of Mondovi, and Christy VanCamp of Menomonie; three great-grandsons, Josh Heller of Augusta, Kole Amans and Karter Johnson both Mondovi; and several nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 1976; and two sisters, Mary Crandell and Eileen Sander.\r\nFuneral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December, 15, 2004, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with the Rev. Craig Mathews officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
