Roger D. DeMars, 79, of Eau Claire, died on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Dove Healthcare West under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. Roger was born on January 20, 1935, in Cornell, WI, to Chester and Freda (Lawrence) DeMars. He graduated from Cornell High School where he was active in football and basketball. He worked at St. Regis Paper Mill in Cornell before entering the Army where he served for three years. After his honorable discharge he met Joan Drier and they were married on June 28, 1958. He worked at Uniroyal in Eau Claire for many years while raising their family. Roger was a devoted husband and father. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed tying flies, and cheering for his Packers and Brewers. He had a great sense of humor and loved people. Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan; sons, Randy (Nancy) DeMars of Eau Claire and Lon (Cheryl) DeMars of Mosinee, WI; daughters, Tami (Steve) Fossum of Viroqua, WI, and Cheryl (Steve) Pikal of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Matt, Andrea, Morgan, Jeremy, Kyle, Kevin, Brianna, Collin, and Emily; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Gass of Wausau, WI, Pat Gass of Bloomer, WI, and Sharon Crane of Rockford, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, A. Richard DeMars; and grandson, Eric DeMars. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 416 N. Dewey St. in Eau Claire with Father George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
