He had beautiful curly hair, and was a doll. Roger won and received a big blue ribbon! His family loved telling that story, and still mention it to this day! Roger graduated from Regis HS, played football there, and was homecoming King! Roger then attended UWEC, where he received a teaching degree in history and geology. He played football while there, and was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, he also received the honor of being a "Golden Blugold". He was a member of Million Dollar Round Table Association many times. He looked forward to their annual fishing trip to Canada with them, as well. Roger coached his children in numerous sports for years, but spent the most time coaching them in basketball. He was great at it, their teams won numerous trophies and championships. Three of his children went on to be superb athletes at varsity and college levels. Roger loved the outdoors, and enjoyed birds and wildlife and feeding and interacting with them. He had the ability to call numerous birds in to him, even a male peacock at zoos, which would then spread its entire tail!. Roger was a huge lover of all his dogs, and they loved him! Roger was an avid reader and never stopped learning in his life. His favorite subject was WWII. He had a library of books on it, that he read and studied. He even audited a WWII class at UWEC a few years ago, and the professor stated he was her "best" student! Roger loved to travel the country with his family, visiting battlefields, historic sites, and many national parks and coasts. Their favorite being Grand Teton National Park, where they returned almost yearly each summer.
Roger was an accomplished, beautiful, pianist; starting as a young child, till his late years. He played and "practiced" daily. He had some pieces that were his favorites: Claire de Lune - his signature song, Alphie, Laura, and so many beautiful genres of music filled his home during his life. Roger adored his wife Susan and his four children, and was a wonderful "kid" dad, being silly, playing jokes, and was always funny and laughing. He attended all his children's events, concerts, plays, and games, their entire youth. When he became a grandfather, he was delighted! He adored and spent much of his time with them. Roger had a deep, deep faith in God, which he passed on to his kids, and it has guided his entire life. Roger was an amazing, beautiful man, who loved life to the fullest.
