Obituary

Roger Livingston Tubbs, age 90, formerly of the Town of Spring Brook, Good Shepherd Senior Apartments in Eau Claire, and most recently Heritage Assisted Living, died peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2024 with loved ones nearby. Roger was born September 29, 1933 to George and Ruth Tubbs in Eau Claire, WI. He married Kathryn "Kay" Tubbs on August 25, 1962, and the pair celebrated 61 years together. He was a 1951 graduate of the Dunn County School of Agriculture and Domestic Economy. His service in the Army led him to Boscomantico, Italy as a helicopter mechanic. Upon his return he received a welding certification from Coleman Vocational, Technical, and Adult School in LaCrosse. Roger was always happiest being busy, creating things, taking videos and telling jokes. He was thrilled to say his grandfather Christopher Columbus Tubbs, Sr. was one of the original founding members of Fall City. He was proud that the family farmland was awarded a Sesquicentennial Certificate for 150 years of continuous family ownership by the State of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin State Fair in 2021. He held several jobs over the years, but mainly at Presto, the Elton and Eileen Chrisopherson farm, and he retired from Northwestern Motor Company of Eau Claire in 1996. Roger was always working on something: cutting firewood, building his own tractor, welding personalized bird feeder poles for his family, welding jewelry for his wife and daughter, or inventing devices to fulfill a need he had. His hobby farming included raising chickens, a few beef cattle, and growing vegetables, especially the favorites of popcorn and sweetcorn. He liked attending Pioneer Days in Eau Claire and was glad to donate the Tubbs' antique threshing machine to the Chippewa Valley Antique Engine and Model Club. He enjoyed camping, square dancing with the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club, and videotaping the bus trips all over the country he took with his wife. From time to time, he would write a poem to go along with gifts for special people. He loved repeating new jokes he heard to anyone who would listen and was always delighted when there was pie for dessert. Roger is survived by his three children, Dennis (Polly) Tubbs of Arena, Amy Tubbs of Pulaski, Christopher (Kelly Jo Brick) Tubbs of Los Angeles; his nieces, Jill (Eric Riha) Reiter of New York City, Suzanne (David) Buckley and their children, Cheyenne and Daniel of Leander, TX, and his brother-in-law, William "Bill" Kruger of Eau Claire. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his brother Burdsel Tubbs. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Heritage Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for their care, concerns, and help.
