Rev. Roland H. Hansen, 75, of Eau Claire, died Friday, January 13, 2006, at Dove Healthcare. \r\nRoland was born in Cedar Falls, IA, September 18, 1930, the son of Paul and Frances Hansen. He attended public school and college there, graduating in May of 1951 from Iowa State Teachers College (now, the University of Northern Iowa). He entered seminary in the fall of 1951, attending Trinity Theological Seminary, Blair, NE, (on the campus of Dana College).\r\nOn July 27, 1952, he was united in marriage with Alberta J. Madsen in Cedar Falls, IA. \r\nUpon graduation from seminary in May of 1954, he was ordained into the ministerium of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in June. His first parish was Brooklyn Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, WI. Other congregations, which he served, include Valley Lutheran Church, North Hollywood, CA; Bethel Lutheran Church, Green Bay, WI; and Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Eau Claire.\r\nOn September 3, 1995, Pastor Hansen retired from the active ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America after forty-one years of service, including the last twenty-six at Our Savior's.\r\nHis 'love of ministry' included preaching and visitation, especially for those who were elderly and homebound.\r\nRoland was preceded in death by a daughter, Miriam; a granddaughter, Jessica; and his mother and father.\r\nHis family includes his wife, Alberta; three children, Thomas (Lynda) Hansen of Green Bay, Elizabeth (Wayne) Metzger of West Allis, and Christine (Paul) Datta of Berlin; five grandchildren, Meredith Hansen, Sarah, Emily and Jacob Olson, and Joseph Hansen; four step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Mostafa) Lotfi, Thomas (Jennifer) Metzger, Ginger (Rick) John, and Kristin Datta; one great grandson, Dakota Klawiter; one step-great granddaughter, Rasha Lotfi; a brother, Vernon (Marcia) of Cedar Falls, IA; two sisters, Connie (Gordon) Hansen of Cedar Falls, IA, and Kay (Kyle) Zimmerman of New London, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2006, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastors Gary F. Sahs and Roger Churness officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
