Obituary

Roland Oscar Rudolph Krause, 97, of Eau Claire, died Monday, November 18, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Communities - River Pines in Altoona, WI. Roland was born July 23, 1927 in Gillett, Oconto County, WI. to Alfred and Meta (Neuman) Krause. After a tragic car accident where he lost his older sister, Virginia in 1933, the young family moved to the small logging town of Wabeno, WI. He lived there for most of his younger years. In the fifth grade he sat behind Mary Margaret (Peggy) Lang who he loved to tease and eventually married in 1948. After serving in the U.S. Navy from August 1945 to October 1946, he was able to attend and graduate from Layton Art School in Milwaukee, WI. Roland and Peggy moved to Eau Claire, WI in 1954 where he used his artistic skills to develop an interior design business, Krause Interiors, which he enjoyed for over 65 years. Roland and Peggy enjoyed living in Eau Claire near the university where they could attend university events and use their large home on Washington St. to rent to college students. Roland enjoyed being part of the creation of the first Viennese Ball at the university. They were members of Grace Lutheran Church for many years where he enjoyed singing in the choir and helping decorate the church for many holidays. They surrounded themselves with beautiful friendships through the years that have continued throughout their lives. Roland was involved in the Kiwanis Club in Eau Claire for many years giving a hand where he could help. He enjoyed working on the Paul Bunyan Camp, ringing the bell during the holiday season, greeting folks at the annual pancake suppers and delivering Meals on Wheels. Through the years Roland and Peggy both enjoyed travel and camping, canoeing with friends, biking, sailing, cooking and reading. Eventually becoming snowbirds each winter with a residence near Venice, Florida. Roland was a kind and gentle man. He was curious about the world, his community, and loved to talk and share with everyone he met. Roland is survived by his two daughters; Kathi Sue Krause of Altoona, WI and Meg Krause and son-in-law, Chan Cleland of Washburn, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Virginia Krause (1933); brother, Don Krause (2002); sister, Marleen Russell (2024); and wife, Peggy Krause (2020). Roland's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring and loving staff at River Pines, Heartland Hospice and Dr. Hamblin.
