Obituary

Rosalinde (Curran) Berg, age 102, died Sunday, Dec. 15, at Heritage Assisted Living where she had resided since March 2010. She was born Sept. 27, 1911, in Huron County, Mich. to Maude (Heaton) and Arthur Curran. She attended country school through eighth grade and then boarded with a family in the nearby town of Pigeon where she attended high school through 10th grade. Her parents sold the farm and moved to Saginaw, Mich., where she attended Saginaw High School, graduating in 1930. After attending post-graduate courses in business, she went to work for an accountant and experienced the after-effects of the stock market crash of 1929 and the Bank Holiday of 1932. In 1933, she was hired as a bookkeeper by the E. F. Wieneke Ford dealer at a salary of $25 a week. She worked for Wieneke's and its successor Sarge Harvey Ford until she retired at age 62. She married Martin Berg in 1935. They were active leaders of Grace Lutheran Church in Saginaw throughout their married life. She served as treasurer for the congregation for more than 30 years, ran funeral dinners, taught Bible School, served as president of the church women and even cleaned the church when necessary. They bowled in Saginaw's Lutheran League for many years, and spent many happy times together at their Torch Lake (Mich.) cottage. After retiring, they traveled to Scandinavia, Germany, Hawaii, the Holy Land, Alaska and many other states. For a number of years they spent winter months in Bradenton, Fla. After Martin's death, she moved to Eau Claire in 1994. She loved to play cards, read, solve crossword puzzles and take daily walks. She was a longtime volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital in Saginaw, and after moving to Eau Claire, volunteered at the Chippewa Valley Museum. She is survived by her daughter Janice Wisner (Donald), Eau Claire, Wis.; grandchildren, Stephen Wisner, and Sarah Duerre (Stephen), Eau Claire; great-grandchildren Rolland Duerre, Henry Wisner, and Maxwell Wisner; a niece, Connie (Curran) Douglas, Saginaw; four nephews, Jim Curran, Saginaw, Dennis Curran, Las Vegas, Ronald Haas, Saginaw, and Donald Haas, Saginaw. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Robert Curran (Arline); sisters-in-law Margaret Berg, Signa Berg, and Esther Haas (Fred); a niece Carol Irwin (Jerry); and many close friends and relatives. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at University Lutheran Church at the Ecumenical Religious Center on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. The Rev. Alan Buresh will preside. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw, Mich. Rosalinde's family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff at Heritage Assisted Living for the outstanding care she received during the last three and a half years of her life. In particular, we will never forget the loving care shown by Amanda and Chris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Berg/Wisner Endowed Scholarship Fund at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., University Lutheran Church, or a charity of choice.
