ROSE B. SHERMAN, 101, formerly of Eau Claire, died Saturday, April 8, 2000 at Bethany Samaritan Heights Nursing Home in Rochester, Minnesota. Rose was born on May 12, 1898 in Oslo, Norway, to Martin and Marie Olson. Shortly after her arrival in the United States in 1902, her mother died and Rose was raised by her aunt and uncle, Karoline and Otto Johnson, who became her parents. Rose was an 8th grade graduate of the Town of Seymour Grade School, attended Eau Claire Business College and worked as a secretary for insurance agencies, including Slagsvol-Minton Agency. She married Bert S. Sherman 1921. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.\r\nSurvivors include a son, Berton Dale Sherman (Ardy Paulson) of Black River Falls; daughter, Marlys Wagner (Fred) of Rochester, Minnesota; and John W. Colombe (Suzanne) of Greenwood, Indiana, a son in every respect but birth; 16 grandchildren, Shelley Ward, Jonathan Sherman, Daniel Sherman, James Sherman, Kathleen Sherman, Steven DeRusha, Jeanne Sulla, Loren DeRusha, Elizabeth Ann Norquist, Timothy DeRusha, Cynthia Nichols, Ann Petersen, Karoline Gittus, Christopher Colombe, Melinda Lantrip and Michael Colombe; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Russell Johnson and a sister, Margaret Hasse.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Bert in 1960; a daughter, Lois M. DeRusha: a granddaughter, Mary DeRusha; her parents; six bothers and two sisters.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Deanna M. Wildermuth and Pastor Philip Formo officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.\r\nHer family request memorials be given to the Samaritan Bethany Foundation of Rochester, Minnesota, or of donor's choice.
