RUDOLPH W. "RUDY" MONSON, 79, of Route 1, Couderay, formerly of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, August 26, 1997 at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital. He was born August 25, 1918 to Martin and Hannah (Pederson) Monson in Pleasant Valley Township. Rudy graduated form Elk Mound Senior High School in 1936 and then attended Eau Claire Teacher's College. \r\nHe served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II with the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1946. On July 12, 1947, Rudy married Rose G. Zurek in Stillwater,MN. He was a Bridge Superintendent with LG Arnold and then Brenden Construction until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of Carpenter's Local Union #1074 and Butler-Lindner American Legion Post #218 in Hayward. Following his retirement Rudy and Rose moved to their home on Blueberry Lake near Couderay where he loved to fish and tend to his garden.\r\nSurvivors include his wife of 50 years, Rose; a daughter, Debbie(Don Strandt) Monson; two sons, Marty and Rod(Laura)Monson; four grandchildren, Andrea and Stephanie Bandoli, Brandon and Desaree Monson, and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trygve and Dillon all of Eau Claire; two brothers, Henry and Ossie(Joy) both of Eau Claire; a sister, Evelyn Herbert of Chippewa Falls; several nieces and nephews.\r\nRudy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernie and Joe; and two sisters, Sara Meyers and Martha Schmidtke.\r\nFuneral services will be 5 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Fehr officiating. Friends may call 3 p.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.
