Obituary

Ruslyn Christian "Russ" Schultz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and great-grandfather, died at his residence in Eau Claire on the morning of January 8, 2016 at the age of 94 years, 5 months and 17 days. He was born on July, 22, 1921 on a farm between Alma and Cream in Buffalo County, the sixth of eight sons born to Henry and Frances (Fink) Schultz. Russ was a 1939 graduate of Alma High School. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp in May of 1942, serving his county during World War II, and ultimately becoming a sergeant in the Communications Service. On November 10, 1945, four days after his discharge from the service, he married Rosie Pantermuehl in New Braunfels, Texas. They had met earlier that year while he was on a weekend pass from Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas. In their 70 years of marriage, they were blessed with 6 children, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Ruslyn became a postal clerk in Eau Claire in 1949. Later, he became a Civil Service Examiner and in 1976, was named Postmaster of the Boyceville, Wisconsin Post Office. Eight years later, he retired from the Postal Service. After his retirement, Russ and his wife spent winter months in New Braunfels, Texas, enjoying family there and many new friendships they formed with "snowbirds" from across the Midwest. While in Eau Claire, Russ and his wife were frequent visitors to the Senior Center for games of cards. Russ was also a member of American Legion Post #53 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 305. Ruslyn was a devoted family man. He enjoyed hunting on the home farm with his brothers, sons and nephews. The annual deer hunt was a prized time of year, as the family gathered to hunt, butcher, and make sausage using family recipes brought over from Germany in the 1860's. He always had time for a game of cards, a game of catch, or a game of dominoes and he never missed a Packer of Badger game. He was an avid golfer, and on September 5, 1987 on the 16th hole, he became a member of the Hole-In-One Club at Hallie Golf Course. Ruslyn was a very handy guy, who could fix many things on his own. He could pick up a tool he'd never seen before, tell you what it was and what it was for, and then do something amazing with it. In his later years, he served on the Board of the Mt. Ash Condominiums, assisting with a lot of projects. In his 80's he was still helping family members with home projects and hanging drywall. As he aged, his number one project increasingly became taking care of his beloved wife. Russ was honored in September of 2011 to participate in the Freedom Honor Flight. Ruslyn was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Milton, Hilbert, Clifford, Milan, Gaylord, and Christian. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Rosie, and children Mike (Dawn) of Janesville, Marc (Barb) of Eau Claire, Fred of Jamul, California, Kathy of Eau Claire, Michele (Ardell) Redetzke of Durand and Matt (Heidi) of Eau Claire. He is further survived by his brother Henry (Gloria) on the home farm and grandchildren David (Mary) and Geoff (Jamie) Schultz, Ruslyn (Erin) and Angela Schultz, Joshua (Heather) and Justin (Lindsay) Redetzke, and Jacob, Noah and Laura Schultz.
