Obituary

Ruth J. Lehman Bremmer, 88, of Eau Claire, died Friday, January 20, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire. Ruth was born on June 22, 1928, in Two Harbors, Minnesota, to Carl and Ida (Lundberg) Anderson. She graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1946. She attended University of Minnesota-Duluth graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education, and in 1966 received her Master's Degree in Counseling from University of Wisconsin-Stout. Ruth taught in the Eau Claire Area School District for 30 years, 10 years in Physical Education and 20 years as a Counselor all in various Junior Highs. She retired in 1985. On June 7, 1952, she married Waldemar W. (Wally) Lehman in Two Harbors, MN. He died on November 10, 1989. On September 29, 1990, she married Donald E. Bremmer at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. He died on June 21, 2002. Ruth was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching sports such as football, figure skating, basketball, golf, etc. She was an active member of the Eau Claire Women's Bowling Association for 30 years, holding several offices, and bowled in two leagues. Ruth also loved to golf, having been a member of Hillcrest Golf & Country Club for 42 years, serving on the Board of Directors, and was instrumental in starting the Memorial Committee. She enjoyed water aerobics at Gold's Gym, where many friendships developed. Ruth was a member of the WTEA (Wisconsin Retired Educators Association) and ECAREA (Eau Claire Area Retired Educators Association). She also loved to travel, going to various places such as Europe, Scandinavian countries, British Isles, Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania, as well as various parts of the United States. Ruth was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church and current member of Trinity Lutheran Church Ruth enjoyed helping people, volunteering at Luther Hospital in the STEP Force Program. She was also a life member of the Luther Hospital Samaritan Club. Ruth is survived by her step-sons, Jan Bremmer of Melbourne Beach, FL, and Gary (Jane) Bremmer of Sussex, WI; step-son-in-law, Michael (Mary Corneiller) Candell of Eau Claire, eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and two brothers, E. William Anderson and Robert T. Anderson; step-daughter, Beatrice Candell; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lehman and Winnie Anderson; a brother-in-law, Tom Lehman. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue in Eau Claire, with Pastor Dave Whelan officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery.
