Obituary

Shawn P. Gromer, 33, of Menomonie and formerly of Eau Claire, went to be with Jesus Christ his Lord Saturday, December 15, 2007 at his residence. His legacy began at his birth on October 3, 1974, in Rockford, IL, the son of Patricia Kerns (Richard) Ghyselinck and Marston Gromer. At the early age of nine he dedicated his life to the Lord. Through the years he demonstrated this by his kind and gentle demeanor. Shawn graduated from North High School in Eau Claire with the class of 1993. He had been very active in the DECCA program at North High School and UW-Stout.\r\nShawn enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard at the age of seventeen, receiving a letter of commendation for outstanding performance in June 1994. He was greatly missed while serving his country in Iraq from November 2004 through November 2005. Shawn was currently serving with the Wisconsin Army National Guard 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry in Eau Claire. In between his schooling and serving in Iraq, Shawn worked many years for Schwan's in several different areas.\r\nShawn demonstrated his love for children as a mentor to a young boy with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program in Menomonie for several years.\r\nCurrently a senior at UW-Stout, Shawn was working toward his Bachelor of Science degree in Career and Technical Education.\r\nShawn is lovingly survived by his parents, Patricia and Richard Ghyselinck of Exeland, WI, and Marston Gromer of Naples, FL; five brothers and sisters, Michelle (Steve) Poissant of Fertile, MN, Martin (Samara) Gromer of Elmira, NY, Nichole (Steve) Mathiason of Rolla, ND, Adam Gromer and Joshua Ghyselinck both of Eau Claire; grandmother, Evelyn Ghyselinck of Eau Claire; his uncles Michael (Kathy) Kerns of Burnsville, MN, and Robert (Pat) Ghyselinck of Gordon; eight aunts, Jenny (Dave) Larson of New Auburn, Connie (Dean) Hinnerichs of Roseville, MN, Theresa (John) Ponio of Island Lake, IL, Judy Reck of Thornton, CO, Marg Gromer of Woodbury, MN, Kris Tarrant of Rockford, Il, Cheryl Huggins of Lena, IL, and Arlene Neubauer of New Brighton, MN; he will be greatly missed his nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Kerns, Frances (Hoeppner) Dewey, Clifford Gromer, and Dorothy Tarrant.\r\nA celebration of Shawn's life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007, at Jacob's Well, 3211 N. 50th Ave., Chippewa Falls with Pastor Paul A. Berthiaume officiating. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Jacob's Well. Family graveside committal services with Military Honors will be at Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Beaver Brook Township near Spooner prior to services on Thursday. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services, Eau Claire is serving his family.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, family requests memorials please be directed to Arrowhead Bible Camp, 30765 117th Street, New Auburn, WI 54757.\r\n
