Shirley B. Champion, 77, of Eau Claire died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Dove Healthcare and Rehabilitation. He was born in Eau Claire on September 7, 1925 to Parker and Ruth (Parker) Champion.\r\nHe served with the Army from May, 1945 to November, 1946.\r\nShirley married Margaret L. Steinke in Mondovi on May 31, 1947.\r\nHe worked on as a Dairy Farmer in the Town of Union until 1966, then as a Welder for Presto Industries, where he retired from in 1990.\r\nShirley's grandchildren were very special to him. He was a very avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed Muskie fishing, camping and watching the Packers. Shirley was the number one fan of his grandson racing dirt-track super stocks.\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sons, Craig (Bev) and Bill, both of Eau Claire; daughter, Sandy Champion of Eau Claire; four grandchildren, Wendy (Tony) Espeseth of Sheldon, Jeff Champion of Eau Claire, Chad (Nikki) Edington and Brad (Lindsay Shoemaker) Edington, both of Eau Claire; three great-grandchildren, Nicki Espeseth, Brianna and Allie Edington; brother, Lloyd (Signey) of Winter; mother-in-law, Emily Steinke of Mondovi; brother-in-law, Walter Boehlke of Eau Claire; three sisters-in-law, Esther (Harry) Davis of Choteau, MT, Ilene (Pete) Schultz of Alma and Barbara (Walt) Wulff of Curtiss; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.\r\nShirley was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty Boehlke.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003 at Truax Congregational United Church of Christ with Reverend Mark Pirazzini officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services and one hour prior to services Friday at church.
