SHIRLEY "RIP" J. RIPLEY, 76, of Eau Claire, died, Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Luther Hospital. He was born on February 21, 1923 in Eau Claire to Manley and Ruby (Welch) Ripley. Shirley graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1940 and then attended Eau Claire Vocational Technical Institute. \r\nHe enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 24, 1942, serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters until his honorable discharge on September 25, 1945. Shirley married Gloria Stark on August 5, 1950 in Eau Claire. He worked thirty years as an electrician at Uniroyal until retiring in 1985.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Gloria; daughter, Helen (Philip) Osterlund of Brooklyn Center, MN; sister-in-law, Ruth (Vernon) Hanson of Elk Mound; and other relatives. His parents preceded him in death.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eau Claire Wesleyan Church with Pastor Dan Bickel officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Friday at the church. His family requests that in lieu of fresh cut flowers due to family allergies, memorials please be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
