IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirly Jean
(Slayton) Hogeboom
December 16, 1938 – September 10, 2023
Shirly Jean Hogeboom (nee Slayton), age 84, gained her angel wings on September 10, 2023 at Marshfield Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. She was born December 16, 1938 to Albert and Helen (nee Claudy) Slayton, raised on the family's farm in Stone Lake and graduated from Spooner High School. Shirly married Keith Tews and together they had two children, Kimm and Randy. She later divorced and remarried Gerald "Jerry" Hogeboom, Sr. in 1990. Shirly and Jerry spent their time traveling around the United States, attending gun shows and fishing together. Shirly was employed by many restaurants in the Stone Lake and Spooner areas. After living in Spooner for more than 70 years, Shirly moved to Eau Claire to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Her pets were her most enjoyable companions, especially after Jerry passed. Shirly enjoyed cooking, baking and vegetable gardening - there was never a weed to be found in her garden. She had numerous bird feeders and loved watching the birds. Shirly attended her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's school and sports activities and also picked up puzzling. It was a challenge to find puzzles she had not completed.
Shirly is survived by her two children: Mavis "Kimm" Severson and Randy (Paula) Tews; two step-children: Gerald, Jr. (Christine) and Dawn Guest; three grandchildren: Warren (Corrynn) Mahnke, Andrew (Ana Cox) Mahnke and Ethan (Grace Christensen) Tews; two great-grandchildren: Caitlyn and Emma Mahnke; six siblings: Carol (Ronald) Melton, Albert, Jr. (Denise) Slayton, Mitchel (Sue) Slayton, Russell (Donna) Slayton, Sherry (Brian) Harshmen and Tammy (Dennis) Slayton; two sisters-in-law: Zona (Richard) Crandell and Dorla (Carlos) Wichelt; and many more members of her extended family including Ciara and John Lee.
In addition to her parents, Shirly was preceded in death by her daughter Sally Tews, brother Lloyd Slayton, and husband Gerald Hogeboom.
Visitation and funeral will be held on Saturday, September 30 at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn's West Chapel, located at 1405 North Clairemont Avenue in Eau Claire.
