Sonja Ann Wittwer, 85, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Cambridge Senior Living under the care of St. Croix Hospice. Born on January 12, 1940 in Augusta, Wisconsin. Sonja was the daughter of George and Fern (Bates) Johnson. Sonja was the oldest of three siblings, a sister Bonnie Kuehn and brother Roger (Kay) Johnson. She graduated from Memorial High School in 1958. After high school she went to vocational school and earned her Beautician's License. She went on to work at B-Love-Lee Beauty Salon for several years. In 1972 she began work at JC Penneys in the shoe department and later moved into a department manager position. She retired from Penneys in 1998. Sonja married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Wittwer, on February 11, 1961. They had two sons, Michael and Steven. Sonja was a loving wife and mother. The family loved camping at various Wisconsin campgrounds. One of their favorite places being Long Lake Morris Erickson Park Campground. They spent a lot of family time camping at Long Lake with their grandchildren Cole and Seth. We have many fond and cherished memories of camping together as a family. Sonja was an avid reader. She and Bob were members of Good Shepherd Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Fern (Bates) Johnson and her beloved son Michael Wittwer. She is survived by her devoted husband Bob, who was by her side every day holding her hand until her last days with us, son Steve (Joni) Wittwer and grandchildren Cole (NiCole) Wittwer and Seth Wittwer, sister Bonnie Kuehn of Eau Claire and brother Roger (Kay) Johnson of Alabama. A memorial service for Sonja will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor Josh Toufar officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Arrangements were entrusted to Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home.
