Steven P. Nowak, 51, of Eau Claire, died on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 3:00 p.m., the hour of Divine Mercy, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. He was born on December 6, 1960 in Eau Claire, to Hugh and Mary Lou (Rust) Nowak. He is survived by his mother, Mary Lou Nowak; brother, Michael Nowak; sisters, Nancy (Kelwin) Anderson and Patricia Nowak; nieces and nephews, Nicholas Anderson, Jason Nowak, Kelsey (Trinia) Anderson, David Nowak, Luke Anderson, and Andrew Anderson; great-niece and nephew, Taylar and Dylan Anderson; and loyal and generous friend, Rick Mayer. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh.Steve battled with addiction his entire adult life. But he is best known and will be remembered for his generosity, wit, kindness, and gentleness. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St. Eau Claire, with Fr. James Kurzynski officiating. Visitation will start at 12 p.m. on Monday at church. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Halverson and the many nurses and staff members at Mayo Clinic Health System who helped care for Steven over the years.
