Susan L. (Bement) Jacobs, age 67, was called home to God on June 29, 2016. She was under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice and resided at the Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center. Susan was born on November 28, 1948, in Eau Claire, WI to Earl G. and Marion S. (O'Brien) Bement. She attended St. Patrick's Grade School and was an alumna of the Regis Class of 1966. She was graduated from UW Eau Claire's School of Education in 1971, with majors in Psychology, Social Science and Geography, and a minor in French. Susan taught at both St. Olaf's and St. Patrick's Grade Schools. In the early years of marriage and family life, with her love of children and teaching, she operated her own in- home day care. Susan returned to work outside the home at UW-Eau Claire in the Registration Office, and became the Registration Coordinator. She enjoyed working with the thousands of students and parents involved in the registration process each semester. She applied her teaching skills to train co-workers, Deans, Department Chairs, faculty, and support staff in the ever-changing registration process. On June 28, 1975, Susan married Steven F. Jacobs ("Mon Etienne") at St. Patrick's Church in Eau Claire, WI. They were blessed with three beautiful sons. She named her family "Team Jacobs" and family was always her focus. Even during her worst days of illness, she always listened with her heart to her children and grandchildren. One of her greatest sources of pride is that her sons have carried the Catholic faith in their hearts, and have passed that faith onto her grandchildren. Known as Susie by her family and closest friends, devotion to family and friends was at her very core. She cherished children of all ages and especially treasured holding newborns and infants. Susie loved to bake and cook, and as a young girl spent hours in the kitchen with her grandmother Sarah (Quilling) O'Brien. Her Christmas baking was exceptional as were all of her holiday meals. She enjoyed entertaining with meals followed by lively conversation, cards, or board games. Susan was a voracious reader, and had an extraordinary mind. She was always inquisitive, learning, and passing on knowledge in fun ways. Sue loved theatre and music, especially Broadway musicals. She thoroughly enjoyed season tickets to the Ordway and Minnesota Orchestra, as well as community theatre. One of her greatest joys was going to New York and seeing Broadway shows. Susan loved to travel and was grateful she did in her younger years. Southern France was one of her favorite places to visit. Susan is survived by her husband of 41 years, Steven; and three sons, Daniel Miller-Jacobs (Sarah) and their children Talia, Miela and Kieran; David (Amanda) and their son Gabrien and Gregory (Susan Kay) and their daughter Gabrielle Allegrezza. Her loving brother Joel and sister-in-law Rosemary Bement, sister-in-law Mary Bement, and two special friends/sisters Peggy Hughes and Margaret Rieck survive her. Additional surviving relatives include siblings Brian (Maureen) Bement, Catherine Jones, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Susan was preceded in death by her dear parents, brothers Gregory (Mouse) and Victor Bement, nephews Jeffrey Jones, Aaron Bement and Peter Bement, and special nephew Joel R. Bement Jr. Special thanks to her brilliant and compassionate physician for over 20 years, Dr. Nathaniel Jalil, and all of the Marshfield Clinic-Eau Claire Center staff that provided care. The family is also very grateful to St. Joseph's Hospice and Colfax Care Center staffs for their exceptional quality and tender care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 416 N. Dewey St. in Eau Claire, with Father George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION PRIOR TO THE MASS FRIDAY AT THE CHURCH. Interment will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery, in Eau Claire.
